The Power of Possibility

What began on a whim and dream is a story about the power of possibility.

As Ruth Godfrey was completing a final exam for her coaching certification, the instructor took her paper and tore it up. He told Ruthie she had taken coaching beyond where it was, at that time. He suggested she go back to Minnesota and start her own coaching school. Inspired, Ruthie enlisted her daughter, Jennie Antolak in the idea, and six months later they launched their first course, the “Power of Possibility.” 21 years ago, Learning Journeys, The International Center of Coaching, was born.

It was a spontaneous idea that was met with skepticism at first.

“We dared to call it a coaching center, we boldly claimed it to be international. In reality, we were teaching classes in Ruthie’s basement. Outsiders questioned our methods and professionalism,” says Jennie.

Turns out the location didn’t matter, what they created was groundbreaking and powerful.

Today, Learning Journeys offers over 50 classes and is licensed under Minnesota’s Office of Higher Education. Their Life Coach Practitioner Certification is accredited by the International Coach Federation.

Ruthie is considered a trailblazer in the coaching industry. Jennie is a sought after speaker and facilitator. Together, the mother-daughter duo have published books and created curriculum for a diverse range of clients, from start-ups to fortune 500 companies. No matter how big or small the client, the results of applying coaching, are equally remarkable. The process has helped many people turn their lives around and businesses increase productivity, as well as profit margins.

Jennie’s son Tanner brings his corporate writing expertise to the team whenever needed and recently developed a creative writing class for Learning Journeys. Working side by side, it’s easy to see they share a passion for the family business and enjoy looking for ways to watch it grow. Ruthie couldn’t be prouder to have her grandson involved. Each of them offers their own unique perspective, when asked what coaching means to them.

“Our students learn how to help others create change by exploring lessons from their own experience and intuition rather than listening to the noise outside. We teach a scarce way of being that is as ancient as time.”

Story telling is one of those ancient rituals embedded in the program. Participants play an active role in the story and let their imagination soar. This coaching technique allows you to dig deeper and find your inner self. It’s all part of the process which sets the tone, for discovery of hidden gifts and talents.

Like most small businesses, Learning Journeys had to reinvent itself during the pandemic. Although they miss in person classes, global technology has its benefits. They’ve expanded their outreach, attracting new students from around the globe. The world may have changed over the past year, but Learning Journey’s mission remains the same, to help people discover the power of possibility.
