Green Smoothie

Smoothies are a great way to disguise essential nutrients from picky eaters. That’s how the breakfast trend began in our home when the kids were little. The only way we could get our three charming children to eat spinach was in a smoothie, loaded with their favorite fresh fruit and a few other key ingredients. My husband has become a pro at making the best smoothies and is often asked for his recipes. We don’t measure anything, so no smoothie is ever the same. We first introduced them to berry smoothies when they were younger, which they loved. Surprisingly, the green smoothie packed with potassium and vitamin C, has become our family’s favorite. Here’s the basic ingredient list we start from. We like to improvise, so try a few different combinations. Not everyone likes the flavor or texture of avocado. Introduce new flavors gently in small doses. Chances are they won’t even notice the difference in flavor if you distribute each ingredient equally. Go with your gut, based on what’s fresh and in your fridge. Improvise and let me know what your favorite combo is in the comments. Cheers to your health!

Zabelicious Tips

  • Use organic ingredients whenever possible. Fortunately, here in the America’s Dairyland we are blessed with a bounty of fresh dairy and produce at local markets.

  • if you decide to use avocado and expect to have leftover smoothie, squeeze a little lime juice to prevent the smoothie from turning brown.

  • Save time in the morning with smoothie prep the night before. Place all ingredients in blender and store in refrigerator overnight. Wake up, blend and serve the next morning!
