The Power of Creating a Vision Board

Vision boards are a powerful tool to help transform your dreams into reality. Take goal setting to the next level by visualization. How ready are you to bring your ideas to life? Be careful what you wish for. Those dreams might come true sooner than you think. Here’s an easy five step guide to get you started. Sparkles not included.

How to Create a Vision Board:

  • Set the mood in a quiet space with music.

  • Gather sources of inspiration and supplies: cork or magnetic bulletin board, poster board, magazines, cards, calendars, sparkles, scissors, stickers, pins, glue, tape, markers.

  • Declare your goal(s) or theme for the board (career, education, health, peace, positivity, spirituality, travel.)

  • Experiment with different layouts for your board.

  • Create the final board and display it prominently as a reminder of your goals.

I prefer to use bulletin boards, tape and pins so that I can update my board when a new idea emerges. I found a pre-framed bulletin board at HomeGoods that fits my style and space perfectly. Sources of inspiration come from magazines like Bella Grace, Magnolia and artists I admire like Katie Daisy and Mary Engelbreit. I save calendars and cards for framing or DIY projects like these. Discover magic in the mess of crafting!

I chose yellow cardstock from Michaels to add a pop of color under key words. I was able to tap into my life coaching tools, thanks to my training through Learning Journeys. My updated board now reflects my theme for 2022 in bright hues: The Year of Magical Thinking. I’m ready to manifest my dreams. Look out world!

The Power of a Vision Board

I truly believe in the power of vision boards. I have made several versions over the years and watched many of my dreams unfold before my eyes. Not always the way I intended. Some unfulfilled, others a work in progress-just like me and my vision board. That’s why I choose to use tape and pins on a bulletin board, so I can easily update it when creative sparks ignite again.

What began as a simple task to update my vision board recently, spiraled out of control. The floor was a disaster, filled with scraps of old ideas from last year that I’m ready to let go. It took more time than I intended, but the process was therapeutic. Out with the old and in with the new. I wanted my vision board to reflect my goals for the year ahead.

I recently declared my theme for 2022 as living an intentional life; leading with love, kindness and gratitude. My goals include renewing my commitment to prioritizing self-care and approaching each day not only as a gift, but a new adventure! I am an eternal optimist and will continue to try my best to turn obstacles into opportunities in the year ahead.

Somewhere between cutting and pasting, my theme evolved. As I created my new vision board, I was able to dig deeper into what those goals really mean. The words spoke to me and the pictures came alive, almost like magic, with a hidden message that’s become my manifesto for 2022.
