Old World Charm Bed & Breakfast

Discover old world charm at this historic inn that's a hidden gem in Phelps, Wisconsin. Nestled in the scenic Northwoods on North Twin Lake, this property offers a true escape from the modern world.

Only recently open to the public, it was once a private home that hosted two presidents and has connections to a few gangsters. Take a step back in time, as you enter the sprawling estate, referred to as, Watersedge, filled with antiques from the original owners.

The historic home was built in 1922 by the Christiansen family, who owned and operated a lumber mill on the property, later known as C.M. Christiansen Company. The prominent family was rumored to have connections to Al Capone and enjoyed visits from presidents Eisenhower and Truman. A framed letter from President Truman thanking Philip Christiansen for his military service is just one of many family heirlooms on display. Uncover more family secrets and folklore as you settle in for your stay, or visit the nearby Phelps Historical Museum. Once you’ve caught up on your history, prepare to meet the newest residents who help keep things on schedule and earn their keep.

Rise and shine to the chickens that roam freely and provide fresh eggs to guests. Wake up to lake living at its best, with a hot breakfast served the old fashioned way, on fine china in the formal dining room from the new caretakers of Watersedge.

Owners Eric and Becky Eismueller left big city life to pursue a new path when they bought the historic home and turned it into a bed and breakfast in 2019. As they were preparing for an open house in the spring of 2020, the pandemic put those plans on hold. Fortunately, the couple had a conservative business plan for the first year, which helped them stay afloat during lockdown. Finally, restrictions lifted and the’ve hosted several satisfied guests, already earning 5 star ratings online. Becky’s breakfast burritos and her fluffy buttermilk pancakes served with local maple syrup are two customer favorites on the menu.

It’s easy to see why people are raving about Old World Charm Bed & Breakfast, when you look around the picturesque property. Surrounded by the Nicolet National Forest, the tranquil setting allows you to unplug and unwind.
