Apple Crisp

Nothing says love like homemade apple crisp fresh out of the oven. Can’t you just smell that heavenly aroma of cinnamon, sugar and apples? Baking apple crisp is a family tradition every fall, after a trip to the orchard and a must at Thanksgiving. Don’t forget the ice cream! Let’s get cooking.

Apple Crisp Recipe

Fruit Mixture:

  • 6-8 apples (gala or honey crisp) peeled & sliced (enough to fill the pan)

  • 1/3 C water

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp nutmeg

  • dash of salt

Topping:

  • 1 1/4 C sugar (raw cane sugar tastes best and gives more texture)

  • 1 C flour

  • 1 stick or 1/2 C butter (softened but not melted)

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350

  • Spread apples evenly in 9X13 pan

  • Sprinkle with cinnamon, dash of salt and water

  • Gently stir all ingredients

  • Mix topping with pastry blender until crumbly

  • Spread crumb mixture evenly over apples

  • Bake uncovered for 40 minutes

  • Serve warm with ice cream
