Our family can’t get enough of this place. Like a familiar friend, the sandy beaches and ocean breezes welcome us back each time we visit. The laid back vibe, with plenty of wide open space and crystal blue water make it a hard place to leave when your vacation is over. Trust me, once you explore the natural beauty found here, you’ll be back.

Eat

The Donut Experiment-Start your vacation with a field trip to this unique donut shop. Send the early birds in your family to get in line, before the crowds appear. Study the menu ahead of time to properly prepare for the “experiment.” You get to design your own donut in three stages; icing, topping and drizzle. Or, try one of their signature flavors, such as Key Lime or Sriracha. The original location on Pine Avenue was so popular, they have franchised and expanded to other states.

Poppo’s Taqueria-Family owned casual Mexican restaurant inspired by San Francisco style taqueria’s. Serving fresh, flavorful food with just the right amount of spice. Plenty of space outdoors to grab and go. Enjoy your street tacos as they are meant to be eaten-al fresco! They now have multiple locations to choose from throughout Florida.

The Waterfront Restaurant-Our go-to family favorite for a special night out on the island. First class cuisine without the stuffiness of a fancy restaurant. The menu changes daily, providing fresh seafood and seasonal items of the highest quality. Enjoy craft cocktails in the cozy bar while the kids are mesmerized by the tropical fish tank, as you wait to be seated. Covered patio and open air dining options.

The Beach House-Amazing views and spectacular seafood at this beachside restaurant. We have enjoyed cocktails, sunsets and memorable dinners here. Our crew loves the grouper tacos and whatever the fresh catch of the day is. Arrive early to snag your seat! This place fills up fast, especially close to sunset!

Stay

We always rent a house so we have plenty of space to host family and the option to eat in. We have been very pleased with quality of lodging found through Anna Maria Vacations multiple times. However, there are plenty of others to choose from. Consult with the local chamber of commerce for further recommendations.

Bradenton Beach-Perfect if you like to be where the action is, with beach volleyball and restaurants nearby.

Holmes Beach-Free kid’s summer surf camp at this beach.

Bayfront Park-Boardwalk for bird watching and offers access to casual dining.

Anna Maria-Ideal for those seeking solitude, this beach extends to the northern tip of the island which is named Bean Point, after the first settler, George Emerson Bean. Limited parking.

Coquina Beach-Filled with seashells and ample space for large family gatherings.

Manatee Beach-Located in the heart of Holmes Beach, another hot spot for collecting shells, plenty of parking and the popular AMI Beach Cafe, offering an all you can eat pancake breakfast.

Anna Maria Island General Store-Discover all your needs in one place at this old fashioned general store. They offer the essentials, along with fresh made sandwiches, bakery items, plus some of the best ice cream on the island.

Ginny’s & Jane E’s Cafe and Gift Store-Eat and drink while you shop, grab a table and sit down for a snack, or take treats to go! Merchandise ranges from original artwork to antiques. We love the fresh baked goods, especially the quiche and the kids rave about the soft serve ice cream.

Discover Farmer’s Markets

Bridge Street Market, 107 Bridge Street-Sundays 10:00 am to 3:00pm November through April is an island tradition. Explore the historic pier afterwards, for more scenic views, shopping and dining.

Coquina Beach Market, 2650 Gulf Dr. S. -Sundays 10:00am-4:00pm November through July (except Easter)
