Mocktail Recipes

Dry January may be over, but the demand for zero-proof drinks, or “mocktails” is still going strong. Booze free beverages don’t have to be boring. Just ask entertaining expert, Maureen Petrosky, whose new book, Zero Proof Drinks & More, sold out over the holidays. Don’t worry, it’s back in stock at local bookstores everywhere, Barnes & Noble and Amazon. We have a sneak peek with two recipes to share. Petrosky’s sophisticated take on mocktails is anything but dry! “Clink!”

Paloma Punch

Serve this refreshing alcohol free Paloma Punch at your next spring gathering. Perfect for brunch or a baby shower, this easy recipe is just one of many mocktails from Petrosky’s new book.

The Paloma, a tequila cocktail that hails from Mexico, gets a sober makeover here that’s just as Zabelicious as the original. Your guests probably won’t event miss the alcohol. But if they really want their tequila, mix them up a single Pink Paloma from Petrosky’s other book, The Cocktail Club, which I often reference as a guide for recipes and spirited party ideas.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice, strained

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 1 cup simple syrup

  • 3 cups grapefruit, sliced thin for garnish

  • rosemary sprigs for garnish

Directions:

  • In a punch bowl, combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice and simple syrup. Add the chilled seltzer.

  • Garnish with the slices of grapefruit and sprigs of rosemary.

Orange Spritz

If you love an Aperol Spritz, then this is the mocktail for you. The orange and tea serve as a substitute for the Aperol with bitter tannins. The fresh orange juice offers a refreshing twist on the original recipe, which doesn’t actually include any OJ.

Ingredients:

  • 5 oranges, 1 thinly sliced (with rind) and 4 juiced

  • 4 cups sweet orange iced tea, chilled

  • orange bitters

  • sparkling water

  • ice

Directions:

  • Fill glass halfway with ice and a couple of thin slices of the orange.

  • Add the fresh orange juice, the chilled sweet orange iced tea and a few drops of the orange bitters.

  • Top with sparkling water and garnish with orange slice
