April: Manhattan
Ingredients:
2 oz Bourbon or Rye
1 oz Sweet Vermouth*
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 dash orange bitters
Directions:
Add all ingredients in a shaker with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a brandied cherry, orange or lemon peel.
*Zabelicious Tip:
A bartender at a quaint pub in Stuttgart, Germany once served us the best Manhattan we ever tasted. Benny was the bartender from Paul & George, who shared his secret to the perfect Manhattan, was in selecting the proper vermouth. We’ve been using Antica Formula, ever since he mixed us that quintessential cocktail. The Italian sweet vermouth was created by Antonio Benedetto Carpano back in 1786. The label and the recipe have reportedly stood the test of time. It’s even tasty on its own, or over ice. Cheers!
